Overview

The primary purpose of the Student Financial Aid Program at Morehouse College is to serve students who need assistance in meeting the basic cost of their education. Any student who is accepted for admission is eligible to request financial assistance. Because funds are limited, federal and state regulations require that these funds go to students who demonstrate financial need. This section outlines the application procedure, how student need and eligibility are determined, and some of the major programs available at Morehouse College. Policy on Financial Aid

All financial aid at Morehouse College is administered in accordance with policies and philosophies which have been established nationally. Care is taken to ensure that financial aid resources are spread amongst students as far as funds permit. The basis of such programs is the belief that students and their parents have the primary responsibility to meet educational costs and that financial aid is available only to fill the gap between the family's and/or student's contribution and allowable educational expenses. The amount of expected student or family contribution is determined by a careful analysis of family financial strength (income and net assets versus the allowable expenses which the family may have).

 

Educational expenses which are considered a basis for establishing student need include tuition, fees, room, board, books and supplies, miscellaneous expenses (transportation and personal expenses). The Office of Financial Aid has an established budget to reflect the costs of each of these items.
